Shokosha Watch Institute.

In 1918 Yamazaki Kamekichi founded Shokosha Watch Institute. They became Citizen Watch Co., Ltd. in 1930. This is derived from a pocket watch named "CITIZEN" developed in 1924. We have the impression of the Japanese second watch maker for them next to SEIKO. However they are the Japan's largest watch maker in the production of watch movement.

The company name called the CITIZEN is a meaning, "be got close to citizen", and it is said that Shinpei Goto who was the Tokyo mayor at the time named it.

1918年に山崎亀吉が尚工舎時計研究所として創業した。1924年に生まれた「CITIZEN」と命名された懐中時計を由来として、1930年にシチズン時計株式会社となった。セイコーに次いで国内第二の時計メーカーという印象があるが、腕時計のムーブメントの生産量は国内最大手を誇る。
シチズンの社名は「市民に親しまれるように」との意味で、当時の東京市長であった後藤新平が名付けたとされる。
